April 14, 1984 – was it really 26 years ago? It doesn’t really seem like that long, but I guess it is. That day, I stood in front of family and friends and married my best friend.
Yes, today is our 26th anniversary. For 26 years, we have listened to each other. Driven each other crazy. Moved together and apart. Raised a child. Loved each other.
It’s a long time to be together. Well over half my life. But then, he is well over half my life. Nice that it works out that way.
He grounds me. He helps me sleep. He helps me work. I don’t know many other couples who could work together as many times or for as long as we have. Heck, I don’t know many companies that could share an office – let alone an office in a two bedroom apartment.
We pick on each other. We are opposites in so many things. People all over the state of AZ know he forgot our first anniversary (or at least virtually forgot it) and that I will never let him forget that fact. He carries his memory in his watch/computer/camera/Kindle. I can’t forget things (usually), but when I do – it is usually something big. He’s a hardware geek. I’m a people person.
Everything works out though – and I hope that we have at least as many more years together ahead of us. For he is my better half. And he says I am his.
Thank you, my love – you make it worthwhile.

Happy Anniversary!
It will be 36 years for my wife and myself. You have summarized the essence of a good marriage beautifully.
We have also:
…”listened to each other. Driven each other crazy. Moved together and apart. Raised a child. Loved each other.”
We pick on each other also, and are opposites in a lot of things. Neither of us has forgotten an anniversary, but we argued so much about how long we had been married a few years ago that we actually had to pull out the marriage certificate to get things straight. (I was right by the way).
