#Amplify made spot number 8. I love (and use) about half her list (Evernote, Tripit, Amplify, Backupify, and Skype). I am signed up for the ideeli emails, but haven’t bought from them (yet).

If I had to put my finger on what I think she has missed, it would have to be:
#Hashable – Introductions via twitter and email. Complete with data and tracking.
#Quora – Ask and answer questions from a wide range of experts. I post answers when I can. I read questions and answers daily. As they grow, they are becoming as much a staple of my life as #Amplify.
#Tungle and #Plancast- Connected calendars online. I an not an active user of Plancast, but I use it to find events that are interesting. I have used Tungle to connect my various calendars for most of the year and really love it.

What are you top online experiences of 2010? Care to share?

@ChuckReynolds has graciously allowed me to share this tweak to the Amplify button for WordPress. I don’t like having my button at the bottom of my posts. I want it up top where site visitors will actually see it. I mentioned this to Chuck today and he went out and generated a fix for me.

If you already know how to make this change, skip directly to the clip below. If not, here’s how to make the change:
1) Log into your server via whatever FTP system you use. (I use WinSCP.)
2) Navigate to the directory with you WP stuff in it.
3) Navigate to wp-content/plugins
4) Open amplify-button.php
5) Make the edit indicated below hint – it is almost at the end of the file) and save the file.

Your button will now be at the top of your posts. If you download a new copy of the plug-in, you will need to make teh edit again. (Unless, of course @egoldstein and crew makes this an option in the next version.)

Our favorite social site makes the top of Wayne’s list of new social networks companies should be monitoring. Go forth and AMPLIFY!

A special tidbit of trivia for those who read this post here on VitaminCh, rather than its sibling over on Amplify: I found Wayne’s article because of a post on Miio. I Amped it, where it is getting traffic. I checked Quora, but don’t see it mentioned there yet.  I haven’t checked the other sites to find out who has noticed his publicity for the sites yet.

Besides my activity here on Amplify, I am already active on Miio and Quora. Both have their uses, but neither is nearly as active as Amplify. I would say that if you aren’t monitoring Amplify for company conversation, you are definitely missing out.

Quora’s Q&A engine is getting better. They let you share your questions and answers out to your Twitter and FB networks. There is a dedicated staff working to keep the conversation targeted. The team there isn’t as involved (publicly) as @egoldstein and company are on Amplify. They are there and working magic, but more in the background.

Miio is a way to share information. I am finding it more useful than I expected for sharing content once it is built. I don’t use it as a way to create content very often – but I know others do. Some of the groups over there are active, some aren’t.

If you belong to any group blogs here on Amplify, chances are you have run into the “where did THAT post” situation. I am here to share two quick tips for making sure things go where you mean them too.

First, When you post a clip, check to make sure the right blog is selected in the list to the right of your clip’s title. In general, it will default to the last blog you were looking at. If you were viewing a group blog, it will show that instead of your blog. (See the screenshot in the clip below.) To change where your clip is going to post, use the drop down to select your blog, not the one Amplify chose for you.

Second: If you are posting from the “What’s on your mind” box on your news feed, you need to change the drop down below the box. (See this screenshot http://screencast.com/t/YTUwNjk3Mm ) Again, it picks from where you posted most recently first.

Bonus: When you do post to the wrong place, don’t worry too much. You can always move your stuff. Edit the piece and use that same drop down list to change the location from where it posted automatically to where you want it to post.

One word of warning: If you change the posting location, make sure you check the autopost list. It will populate based on the blog you choose, but it doesn’t always keep what you think it should.

Someone suggested I try out Miio today. It’s another social site where I can learn what is on other people’s minds. I am liking it, but not as much as Amplify.

The team is just as involved with the community as the Amplify team is, which is quickly becoming one of my “site measurements”. They have worked hard to create a site where people can share information. One interface related thing I do like about them is that the content stream will run while you are on the page. You can pause it to read something, and then let it run on while you browse. I like that.

I think that there is a lot they can learn from Amplify. There isn’t an easy way to find the other people who are in your network and already using the site. If you have more than one thing on the dashboard that needs your attention, it can be hard to get to the specific items – they clear all notifications when you read one.

I am hoping that at some point they develop an API so that Amplify’d content can be shared there easily.

In general, I think that miio is a place I will dabble in as compared to Amplify which will remain my place of residence.
