Tucson Computer Society Presentation

Welcome Tucson Computer Society! They are sitting out there watching me give a presentation on blogs as part of the AZACC presentation tour. They are located in Tucson AZ. (By the way, the presentation is being done over Skype. Cool, huh?)

One of the things I am demoing to each group is how easy it is to post a new blog post. All I have done is create a post in OneNote and copy the text over to my blog post screen.

When the presentation is all done, I am hoping that one or more of them will comment and let us know what they thought of the presentation.

Welcome Four Parks Computer Club! They are sitting out there watching me give a presentation on blogs as part of the AZACC presentation tour. They are located in Florence. (By the way, the presentation is being done over Skype. Cool, huh?)

One of the things I am demoing to each group is how easy it is to post a new blog post. All I have done is create a post in OneNote and copy the text over to my blog post screen.

I happen to love this group because while small, they are always welcoming, friendly, and involved.

When the presentation is all done, I am hoping that one or more of them will comment and let us know what they thought of the presentation.

(By the way, the presentation is being done over Skype. Cool, huh?)

One of the unique things about Viewpoint is that my Aunt (OK bruce’s aunt) lives there. We don’t get there often enough, but we think about her all the tim.

AZACC Tour time again!

This morning starts another mini-tour for AZACC. This month, I am presenting an introduction to blogs and blogging to 20-25 groups. Most of the tour will be done over Skype.

This is the second half tour I have done this season. Being able to do them over Skype increases the number of presentations I can do without increasing the stress on my knees. This is a good thing.

As the materials get finalized, I will upload them to the cloud and add them to this post. For now, feel free to comment with blogs and blogging tips that you want to share.

Lisa Morosky has created a blog post that she hopes will connect #BWE10 attendees before the event: A list of who is coming and how you can reach them online.

She is creating the list by self-submission. There is a form at the bottom of her post that asks for your name, your email, and your site. If you are going, add yourself!

I am planning to go – and hoping to speak… (My proposal hasn’t been denied yet, so I still have hope.) If you are going, let me know. Maybe we can do that real life meet up that Jaemi (http://jaemi.amplify.com/) keeps mentioning!

I’m excited to be heading to Las Vegas on October 13-17, 2010 for the BlogWorld & New Media Expo! The conference itself is on October 14-16, 2010 – but I’ll be there early.

I had a blasty blast last year. I got to meet some cool folks (who have since turned into friends and clients), check out some good panels and sessions, take awkward pictures of Dave Risley, see a Cirque du Soleil show for free, and just enjoy the company of my blogging colleagues.

Pictures in WordPress with spaces and captions

My team member at my new job, Kimmie Chann, was having a problem getting pictures from Flickr to embed in her WordPress blog. Since I have fought the same battles with some of my images here on VitaminCH, I thought I would share with everyone a quick solution to the problem.

The first step is to get the link for your image and decide where in your post you want the image to show. While editing the blog post, switch from the “Visual” tab to the “HTML” tab. Find the place in the post where you want your picture to appear.

Your next step is to put together the code for the picture, the link, and the caption. Start with this code:

[ caption id="Name_Of_Photo" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Caption_Text " ][/caption]

Where:

Name_Of_Photo is the name of the photo in your graphics library
Caption_Text is the text you want to show below the photo
Hover_Text is the text to show on mouse over
LINK_URL is the link to the page to go to when the picture is clicked
Picture_URL is the Flickr (or other photo storage) URL for the picture itself
ALT_Text is the text to show if the picture is not shown or if a screen reader is being used

Please note: In the sample code, I have added an extra space after the “[" and before the "]“. This is so that you can actually see the comment code that makes this trick work.

Let’s see a real example. This HTML:

Once you have the HTML added, switch back to the “Visual” tab. You should see the pictures in your post just as they will show in the actual entry.
